Dealing with Companies That Refuse to Cover the Death of a Motorist if You’re At Fault

Share

Nobody wants to be the cause of anybody’s death.  It is not really one of the things that you want to think about when you are looking for the right car insurance.  However, it is part of road reality.  Car insurances exist to respond to the unexpected, anyway, so death must be part of the whole deal.  It sounds harsh, but you can always put it in the back of your head if you go for a full car insurance coverage.  The usual car insurance covers bodily harm that you have inflicted, among others.  Still, you need an insurance that will cover death specifically, specially when the motorist whose death you have caused has no insurance policy.

Make sure that your insurance has a coverage for the accidental death of the damaged party.

It does not mean that you are planning to kill anybody.  You just need to *make sure that you are fully covered*. In fact, in cities, full coverage car insurance is required.  If you do not have such a policy, you will not even be allowed to buy your own car.  This is just to ensure that you will be totally responsible for any sort of damage you may inflict during an accident.  Because at the time of your search you have not yet met an accident, think of it as just looking for the best possible car insurance policy out there.

Set up a meeting with the family of the victim for joint resolution.

If you are responsible for the death of a motorist, you have financial and emotional responsibilities.  You should meet up with his or her family.  Talk to them about your willingness to pay for any expense incurred because of the accident and eventually, the death of their relative.  The meeting can also be a way to find closure in some way on both ends.  If there is no closure, at least you have tried.  Also, you should sincerely apologize for something that could not be undone.

Get advice from an insurance agent before consulting a lawyer.

An insurance agent will best know the ins and outs of car insurance coverage.  So before you move on to legal means, present the facts of the case to an insurance agent first.  He or she will advise you as to what your best move should be.  The agent will also examine the terms of your policy and explain anything that is not that clear to you.  An insurance agent from another company will best show you the loopholes of your car insurance company’s policy.

Consider your legal options.

Once you are clear about your rights and about what you could claim from your car insurance policy, you can already consider hiring a lawyer who is an expert on such matters.  You will be considering two possible points: a case against you for manslaughter and a case against your insurance company over coverage.  See what your chances are.

Death may not be such a pleasant possibility but it must be considered when taking car insurance.  The best solution for any possibility is to get full car insurance policy coverage.
