How to Deal with Getting Bumped from a Flight
It is not an uncommon experience for some unlucky passengers to be bumped from their flights. This is because airlines sell more than 100% of their seats since they are assuming that there will be some people who will not show up for their flights. Being bumped occurs when everyone shows up. As a result, some will not be included in the flight though they already have their tickets. They are the ones who are bumped and they will just have to take another flight. The following tips are just simple ways on how to deal with getting bumped from a flight, whether voluntarily or involuntarily.
Pay attention.
Before volunteering to be bumped, just make sure that you will be given compensation for this. See first if your airline is willing to give you a seat on another airplane. Just make sure that you will get your reward.
Document your transaction.
As the airline staff asks for volunteers, the rewards usually goes up also. Just make sure that you put into writing what you have talked about. List all the offers made to you and make the staff member write his or her name and employee number on a paper so that when you claim your compensation, it will be easier for you to track the one who gave you the offer.
Use your waiting time wisely.
When you are bumped from the flight, there is no use being frustrated over it. Just make the most out of the moment. If the airline booked you on a flight which requires additional long hours at the airport, just ask permission if you can use some of their amenities such as the airport club; you can also read a book, or work and surf on your laptop. If your new flight requires you to stay overnight in a hotel, it is most likely that the hotel will give you free accommodation. So just enjoy your stay there. Consider your free hotel experience as a part of your vacation.
