How to Deal with Wasp and Bee Stings When Hiking
To ensure your welfare even if you are far from the comforts of home while hiking, you have to know information about situations that you might find yourself into once you go on a vacation. If you are planning to go on a hiking trip, for instance, best prepare yourself for wasp and bee stings. Getting a bee or wasp sting while hiking is a possibility, especially if the hiking area is known as an insect-filled habitat. Wasp and bee stings can cause pain and swelling of the affected part. But be aware that wasp and bee sting can be fatal to those who have severe allergies to these insects. In rare instances, a single bee sting can cause death.
Bee sting prevention
One of the best ways to deal with bees is to prevent a bee attack. One of the ways to do this is by wearing dull-colored clothes. You should avoid wearing bright colors such as yellow, green, and red. Usually, bees are attracted to these colors. Another thing that you have to avoid is wearing perfume. If you have an allergic reaction to bee sting, you have to take histamine an hour before you head off to the woods. It is best if you bring along anti-allergy pills and first aid tools when you go hiking. Another valuable information that you need to know is that smoke can prevent the bees from getting near you. So if you think there are lots of bees around, you should make a small, smoky fire to ward them off.
Wasp and bee sting first aid
If you have been attacked by wasps or bees, you should immediately remove the stinger using a tweezer. Doing this would prevent you from the danger of getting a secondary infection. You then have to disinfect the wound. Applying a cold compress is also necessary to slow down venom absorption.
If you know how to deal with wasp and bee stings, you don’t have to panic once you have been attacked by one. Just stay calm and follow the tips mentioned above.
