How to Deal with Unexpected Visitors in Your Home
The problem with unexpected visitors is that they’re, well, unexpected. You’re not given any warning or time to prepare your home and give these visitors a proper welcome. Not only is it surprising, it’s also disconcerting as, more often than not, the house is a mess when there are no guests expected. But there are ways to cope with unexpected guests. It just needs some quick action on your part and keeping up good housekeeping habits.
Surprise!
When the doorbell rings and you open the door to an unexpected visitor, say, a relative or friend, you will get mixed reactions. If the guest is someone you haven’t seen for a while, you’d be a bit pleased for the visit. But even so, you would still be concerned at the messy state of your home. But don’t worry. Try to adapt to the situation. For one, bring the guests over to one part of the house with the least clutter and let them wait there for a bit. Then, do some minor, lightning-fast cleaning in the living room. It’d be better if you let your partner entertain them while you pick up the clutter and wipe the dust in the living room. Also take the time to make the bathroom and toilet presentable. Afterwards, you can go back to your guests and entertain them in the living room.
Regular housekeeping
If you clean and fix-up your home regularly, then you’d be less concerned about unexpected guests popping into your doorstep. They say, expect the unexpected; one way to do that is to make sure that your home is ready to receive guests any time.
Ask for a warning
You should also let the guests know as clearly and as polite as possible that you’d like it if they would inform you beforehand of their plans next time they visit. Unexpected visits can be quite rude as it puts the host in a bad light. It also can be considered as an invasion of privacy and a bother since the host can be in the middle of something. Let the guests know that a little warning would be much appreciated.
Unexpected visitors are a part of life, but with regular housekeeping and some quick action, it won’t be much of an issue. Also, voice out your displeasure and surprise in a positive manner, this is to prevent similar circumstances in the future.
