How to Deal with Signs of Aging

There is no denying or escaping the truth that all of us would get old, and that aging signs would be upon as sooner or later. When we speak of aging signs here, we are principally speaking about one particular component of our bodies — the skin.

How to keep your skin looking young and healthy

#  Eat well. What you take in on an everyday basis impacts a lot on the skin. The foods lacking in nutrients (those with empty calories for example) would not give the body the minerals needed to maintain a healthy skin. You should include the following vitamins and minerals in your diet: beta carotene (apricots, squash), vitamin C, vitamin E (raw nuts, seeds), selenium (garlic, tuna), and zinc (seafoods, onions). Try taking herbal teas which have plenty of antioxidants. Examples are spearmint, lemon balm and decaf green tea.

#  Get rid of the deadly vices. It is a common fact that alcohol weakens our immune system, and it makes for health complications. If you are a heavy drinker, turn yourself into a social drinker. That goes the same for the smokers — if you are an occasional smoker, you might think of quitting cold turkey.

#  Do not expose yourself under the sun from 10 am to 3 pm and get adequate sleep. Accept the fact that gone are the days when you could go running for 28 hours straight without sleeping, and still go partying after that.

#  Do not stress yourself. It has been proven in many studies that too much stress would add free radical production in the body, and these are the molecules that destroy our healthy cells. Also, it is recommended that you get frequent exercise. This is not to say you should play basketball everyday. Still, walking or jogging (light) on a set schedule would definitely go a long way in your quest for delaying the aging signs.

#  For the guys, it is not just skin that they would worry about, it’s baldness as well. I think it was Dale Carnegie (an icon in self-help books) who said something like — “Don’t worry about getting bald, you have lots of company.” Indeed, there are so many, in every country in the world. If you could not bear it however, you could try out the modern approaches of medicine where hair would “grow back naturally” after specific treatments.

Unless you are a superhero, you could not stop the passage of time or the coming of the aging signs. However, if you are conscientious enough, you could delay them for an impressive amount of time. This includes quitting bad habits, proper diet, minimizing stress, and others. Remember, everybody could attend to aging signs, you need not be a Hollywood actor or actress.
