Women in their forties will have to expect to deal with another stage of their lives as women.  Menopause is another stage in a woman’s life in which there will be hormonal changes that can affect her physical form and emotions.  This is not an easy time for the woman and it is best that she has the support of her husband as her body undergoes changes during this stage of her life.

What is menopause?

Menopause is the stage when the woman no longer has her menstrual period for several months.  While the average age for menopause varies in women from different countries, it usually ranges from 45 to 55.

What are the physical changes during menopause?

Hot flashes signify the beginning of the perimenopausal period.  This can occur one to five years before the cessation of the menstrual period.  This is characterized by feeling hot along with perspiring profusely.  The woman may also experience increase in the intensity of PMS symptoms.  Night sweats and sleeplessness may also occur.

What are the expected emotional changes?

Due to the hormonal changes that occur during menopause and the uncomfortable changes in her body, the woman may feel irritable during her menopause.  She may also experience depression due to the physical changes in her body.  Her self-esteem may be affected because of the changes in her looks.  These emotional changes may be aggravated by factors involving the people around her and her surroundings.

How can a woman deal with menopause?  How can the other members of her family help?

Some of the changes that occur during menopause may require the treatment using medications.  Hormone replacement therapy can help relieve the symptoms of menopause.  There are several Hormone replacement therapies in the market.  Although they reliable, they are also noted with some adverse effects.  Be sure to inquire with your medical practitioner regarding the treatment options.  There are also alternative treatments and complementary therapies that are available.  Because this is a difficult time in a woman’s life, she needs support from her husband and family.  They should try to understand her and make her feel good about herself.  She might also need some counseling from a trained practitioner.

As a woman approaches this transition in her life, her family should be there to support and understand her.  They should be prepared with the changes in her body and behavior.
