I believe another way to see how you can overcome this kind of addiction would be to look at your family background. I know of a family that has this problem. The grandfather emotionally, verbally and physically abuses the grandmother even until their current age of past 80. From the stories of other relatives, both were brought up by similar kinds of families wherein one of the parents was abusive of the other. The thing is, their children also married people who tended to be abusive. Among the grandchildren, half also married abusive partners! The other half of the grandchildren were lucky because for some reason, they had better self-esteem and were able to choose partners who were level-headed. With this kind of scenario, I believe that the kind of marital relationship children see in their parents while growing up has a great effect also in creating an addiction.

As human beings, it is our normal nature to have our ups and downs in our interpersonal relationships. That is life, sometimes it is sunny, and sometimes it is a rainy day. People who always end up in a bad relationship will always have difficulty in dealing with a good and working relationship because they tend to become paranoid and afraid that the present relationship would end up like the rest. To deal with these kinds of partners, understanding is the key. Communicate with them always to avoid misunderstanding and arguments. Always make them comfortable with your presence and make them feel secure about his relationship with you. Sometimes, people that always end up with bad relationships are those who have inferiority complex and those who are insecure. To deal with people like this, you must not fight fire with fire. Instead, stay calm and cool when arguments due to insecurity occur.
