How to Deal with Getting Turned Down for a Dream Job
In times of financial crisis, aside from being fired from your current job, the other painful occurrence in the workplace is being turned down when you applied for your dream job. You may have submitted you application to another company or you have requested your boss to evaluate your promotion, and then your application or your request has been rejected. Almost anyone who finds himself or herself in this situation will have his or her ego bruised.
However, there are ways by which you can turn this rejection into something positive. Getting turned down for the first, second or even the nth time should not be the reason for you to stop trying your best in your next job applications.
There is at least one reason for the rejection of your request. If possible, try to find out what the reason is. This will help you evaluate yourself and your skills. If you feel that the reason is something that you have overlooked about yourself, this will be the vest time to upgrade your skills and your image. However, if you think that the HR manager has misjudged you, consult a friend and ask for his or her opinion. If your friend agrees that you have been inappropriately turned down, just treat it as a loss on the part of the company.
Focus on your strengths
Most likely, you were turned down because of your weaknesses. Instead on wallowing in this failure and blaming yourself for everything, focus on developing your strengths. With your strengths becoming more evident, it is possible that in your next job interview, the company will accept (and even overlook) your weakness because of your excellent qualities.
It’s not always about you
While it is very likely that your are rejected because of your qualities and skills, don’t think that these are always the reason for job rejections. Remember that there is a number of other applicants vying for the position. If the company needs only one person and they already found the right one, even if you are close second runner-up, the company still cannot hire you.
It is not the end of the world when your application for your dream job gets rejected. If it is really your fondest dream, then continue trying and learning from your mistakes until you hit the high mark.
