Paying Your Mortgage when You’re Unemployed
These hard times have certainly put a lot of people under dire financial status. As unemployment is on the rise, the rate of foreclosures and bankruptcies also go higher. Those who have spent many years paying for their homes suddenly find themselves losing their memories and shelters to foreclosure, as mortgages are not paid when owners have
been unemployed for a long time.
Though the Obama administration is slowly coming up with a national bailout plan to help Americans, those who want to find faster results can look to other sources.
Dealing with mortgage payments when unemployed
Mortgage payments are heavy responsibilities anybody can undertake. If you’re still lucky to have a steady source of income, don’t see it as an excuse to skip out on the payment for this month to splurge on something else. Otherwise, when you end up losing your job, you’ll have to cope with paying off your mortgage even if you’re unemployed.
Come up with a budget
Tightening your purse strings in this situation is one of the best ways to deal with mortgage when unemployed. Cut back on expenses such as subscriptions, movie and nights out, and other luxuries. Not only will you be paying off another loan, but also other fees if you get assistance from mortgage brokers.
Refinance your mortgage
This is basically taking out a loan on your home loan. Some find this step to be a helpful one; however it’s very risky for those who have no stable source of income or no established savings. Sure it can provide you with the money to pay off your first mortgage. However, the payment period is extended. Even the employed ones find a hard time keeping up with a second mortgage as one can never know when the recession can strike them.
You should do your best to keep up with your mortgage payments even when you’re unemployed. Though getting laid off is very hard, losing a home can be a very bad blow to you and your family. A job can easily be replaced, but one can’t find a home that easily.
