Dealing with Persistent Debt Collectors in the Office
When you still haven’t paid off your debts from your lender or bank, they may call upon professional debt collectors to help them do so. Though these people are awarded the right to collect payment from debtors through various ways, they are also mandated by certain laws that protect debtors. However, don’t hide from them because as more time
goes by that you haven’t settled your debts, the more penalties, fees, or even cases can be built up against you.
Instead of hiding from debt collectors, talk to them when they come knocking at your door within proper business hours on weekdays and weekends. Have an assessment of your finances so you can talk with debt collectors about how to pay off your debts.
However, before you make any dealings with people presenting themselves as debt collectors, you should always verify if they are connected to the lender or financial institution from whom you owe money from. Also make sure that the debt collection agency is also accredited by the state.
Dealing with persistent debt collectors in the office
Debt collectors can try many tricks in their book to get you to pay, but you also have a book of rights to safeguard you from overzealous collectors.
Ask them to stop if they go overboard
You’re only entitled to three phonecalls and letters per week. Also, you can write the debt collection agency or your creditor to request them to halt.
Meet them somewhere else except your workplace
If they do show up at your office, you can file a complaint especially if you have been intentionally embarrassed in front of colleagues.
Deal with them head on
Don’t tell your kids to tell the tax man that mommy or daddy’s not home. In fact, it can even add to your case. Meet with the debt collectors or lenders personally so you can discuss how you can settle your debt. If you are having trouble paying up, tell them so and don’t try to hide it if you can because they do credit checks every so often. Be sure to deal with debt collectors in the most professional and respectful manner possible so you won’t have any other worries.
