How to Deal with Bed Bugs

Sleeping soundly at night and then getting interrupted by the sudden itching on specific spots in your body is really frustrating.  This nuisance is probably caused by bed bugs.  Bed bugs are very little critters, just about ¼ of an inch in size.  They like to live in dark areas and crevices.  Among their favorite hiding places are mattresses and linens.  These critters feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals, and they are usually active in finding food during the night.  Bed bugs can also survive for few months without food.

What are the dangers of bed bug bites

While these bugs suck blood, they also excrete saliva, which causes the itchiness one feels when bitten by them.  A wheal may also develop immediately or after a few days.  If one has allergic reactions to insect bites, this may cause a more serious problem.  Because they are small, they can easily transport and spread throughout the house.

If you have been bitten by these critters, you have to avoid scratching the affected spot, because this may lead further infections. You should then consult a dermatologist about the ointment that you should apply on the infected part.  You should do this especially if you have allergic reactions to bed bug bites.

How to prevent bed bugs from infesting your home

Cleaning your house regularly is the first and most important step in getting rid of bed bugs.  You have to regularly clean the sheets and linens.  Aside from this, you have to ensure that the cracks and holes in your home are filled in or covered.  If you think that you cannot control these critters with just proper cleaning, you should employ the service of a pest control operator.

To have a good night sleep and a bed bug-free home, you have to put effort in removing bed bugs.  After all, they are really bothersome critters that could be very harmful at times.
